Description:
Fits: 2009 Pontiac G8 GT with 6.0 V8.
Description:
The quality of the engine/transmission computer calibration is vital in providing the best the performance, efficiency and overall enjoyment of your vehicle! That's why a tune is one of the first three performance mods done on newer vehicles including our Pontiac G8s. While handheld programmers from do-all tuning companies provide the basics, if you're interested in more, give consideration to Overkill computer tuning. Not a do-all tuner, I only specialize in specific platforms with a dedicated aim at providing the very best computer tuning possible, and with a G8 GT in the family and as a long time Pontiac owner I love these cars and am here to provide your G8 with the very best tuning - Will "Overkill"
Cost for Pontiac G8 GT in-car tuning is $300 and provides up to 2 hours of tune time, sufficient for all bolton cars in most situations, while cammed/supercharged cars may need extra time at $50/hour. Wideband O2 sensor is used in the tailpipe similar to a dyno if you don't have a wideband gauge installed.
Email for a tuning appointment, roughly 1 week in advance typically required.
Whether your vehicle has been modified mildly, extensively or not at all, the goals of these improved PCM controller settings are simple:
-Increase Horsepower and torque (documented 12-15 horsepower gain at the wheels with exhaust only mods)
-Maintain a healthier transmission
-Improve how the vehicle drives
-Improve the fuel economy wherever possible
Although the G8 is a terrific vehicle, with extensive drivetime, there were areas that I wished to improve upon in terms of how the vehicle drives and its overall performance. From significantly improving how the transmission behaves, to revising the displacement on demand, improving overall performance under heavy throttle and addressing many indepth features that I aim to provide in all vehicles I tune, you'll find the quality and features far exceed those of a handheld programmer.
Technical Features and Benefits:
Engine
- Retuned Spark Advance at all throttle positions and engine speeds, roughly a dozen remapped in all, will provide increased engine efficiency, improved torque and smoother part throttle acceleration. Engine knock sensors are NOT desensitized like some handheld tuners on the market. Spark knock retard responds more aggressively to engine knock than the factory tune to improve engine safety, while recovery rates to bring spark timing back to full are accelerated. You do NOT need a heat soak reduction kit with an Overkill tune
- Target air/fuel ratios under heavy throttle are revised from the pig rich factory settings to safe, excellent power making ratios. Fuel enrichment activation comes sooner in the throttle travel to increase mid throttle torque and all fuel enrichment delays are removed for more instant response to pedal mashing
- Displacement On Demand (4-cylinder mode) revisions: activates in 6th gear only for highway use, smoother operation by introducing a slight activation delay so the system can't deactivate and reactivate immediately, maximum continuous runtime increased from 8 minutes to 10 minutes. DoD can be fully disabled if requested.
- Reduced torque management: removal of power limiters which reduce spark advance, cut fuel or close the throttle body due to power increase over factory, and traction control intervention is desensitized by not allowing throttle body closure
- Electronic throttle body is remapped compared to throttle pedal movement, to reduce the jerky pedal feeling in the first 1/4 throttle travel during takeoff
- Cooling fans are reprogrammed to run low and high speed more often, roughly 20 degrees F cooler than stock, and will remain on for 1 minute at key off to reduce heat soak in the engine bay once at operating temperature
- A/C compressor will shut off over half throttle acceleration to free up the power it robs, and reactivate under half throttle
- Speed limiters are removed, rev limiters raised to allow higher revs in drive, park/neutral and lowered in reverse to protect the transmission from excessive reverse acceleration.
Transmission
- Highly revised shift schedules (when the transmission will upshift and downshift) in both normal and sport modes. Normal mode is still comfortable but more sporty and will suite those who may currently drive in sport mode full time. Sport mode will hold each upshift noticeabley longer and kick down gears quickly. Torque converter lockup is less intrusive.
- Tap shift mode revisions: will auto downshift into 1st gear at standstill, converter lockup disabled until 6th gear, Displacement on Demand disabled in tapshift, anti-abuse feature will auto downshift into appropriate gear over half throttle if road speed is insufficient to hold current gear
- Extensive revisions to both fluid pressure management and desired shift time duration to produce comfortable but quicker shift feel. Full throttle acceleration shifts noticeabley quicker but will not scratch the tires, not reduce trans/differential expected life
Dyno tuning with immediately before/after comparison on a factory G8 GT with Solo high flow cats and cat-back shows a gain of up to 16 wheel horsepower on 91 octane fuel.
