Darren Furlong - 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP Coupe

Darren drives his GTP 150-200kms round trip almost daily. He has owned his GTP long enough to put nearly 200,000kms on it in less than 3 years! This car needs to be reliable, comfortable and fun.

Darren was a testbed for our first prototype Overkill M112 Hybrid project, for which his car produced 273whp on just the supercharger change, an intercooler and a set of headers, a gain of nearly 100 horsepower at the engine without lifting the valve covers off.

In April 2007, Darren rebuilt his entire drivetrain. Nothing failed, he simply wanted new parts, and more power! His current motor consists of fully ported and polished head assembleys with oversize valves, sitting on a fully rebuilt L36 bottom end block, with Cometic head gaskets and ARP studs to seal. The valvetrain consists of a JPP double roller timing chain, Overkill BBC CompCams camshaft, Compcams pushrods and 1.7 full roller rocker arms with LS7 valve springs. His self-made intercooler now cools the boost from another prototype Overkill M112 Hybrid supercharger, this one based off a GenV M90 casing. His associate at Bourque Transmissions rebuilt the trans with a 2750 stall ZZP converter, 3.29 7/8 gearset, ZZP 4340 input shaft and a shift kit. Racetronix fuel pump and rewire, TOG headers and custom 3" exhaust, 65# injectors and a 75mm Northstar throttle body with SLP MAF round out the other particulars. On a 3.0 pulley, he pushes 13-14psi.

In September 2007, we finally hit the dyno with Darren's beast. Final numbers were a very healthy 386 wheel horsepower, which equates to somewhere around 475 at the motor, and an even better 400 wheel torque. The car was run in very much a street trim, with 18" rims, full exhaust with catalytic converter, air filter remaining etc. One can of Torco octane additive was used in 1/3 tank of 94 octane, and tuning was required to bring the AFR back to a steady 11.5. 22* of timing advance. The car is capable of even higher numbers with true race gas, dropping the exhaust, reinstalling factory rims and tires and allowing cooldown time, but this is the horsepower that is driven daily and that's even better!

Other modifications: Superior Sport Chassis Gen2 lowering springs, KYB GR2 strut assemblies, F-Body front caliper upgrade with Hawk HPS pads and crossdrilled rotors, GMPP sway bars and trailing arms, CSA 18" rims and Falken 452 tires.
